There are eleven boxes in the hall and the tape ran out on Tuesday, and you have not bought more, and there is a reason you have not bought more.
Out by Sunday. That is fixed and there is no arguing with it and nobody is being cruel about it.
The new place needs the deposit by Friday. Also fixed, also not cruel, and entirely standard, and the woman on the phone was pleasant and had clearly said the same sentence eleven times that morning.
You counted on Monday night at the kitchen table. Then again on Tuesday. Then twice on Wednesday, once in the afternoon in a way you would describe as calm and once at about eleven in a way you would not.
The figure does not move.
The children think this is exciting, which is the mercy in it. They have been given the news as an adventure and they are treating it as one, and your eldest has already decided which room she wants in a flat she has seen once for ten minutes.
And there is a thing that has been sitting on your chest since Wednesday night, which is not the figure. It is that the whole household is currently trusting a man who has counted four times and knows exactly what the answer is.

The name was given before anybody knew how it would go
There is a moment in Genesis where a man names a place after something God had just done.
And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen.Genesis 22:14
The name means the Lord will provide, or more exactly, the Lord will see to it.
And the thing worth stopping on is when it gets said. Earlier in the chapter, walking up the mountain, before anything at all has happened and with a very hard thing in front of him, Abraham says God will provide Himself a lamb.
He says it on the way up. Not on the way down with the story finished.
The name does not describe a technique. It describes God's character, spoken by somebody in the middle of the walk who did not know how it was going to go.
You are inside the part of the story where the name gets said, not the part where it gets explained. I am not putting my own idea over you here. Scripture says in the mount of the Lord it shall be seen, Genesis 22:14, and the Holy Spirit is the one who takes a name like that off a page and sets it in a hall with eleven boxes in it.
Nothing on this page costs anything
Let me be plain, because this is precisely where people get sold things.
Nobody here is going to tell you that a gift releases a supply, or that there is a sum to send that moves Friday, or that the amount you sow determines the amount you see. There is no toll booth in front of your breakthrough and there never will be on this page. Scripture never once put a price on receiving from God, Isaiah 55:1, and the Holy Spirit does not work a turnstile.
And there is no advice here. Not about the deposit, the scheme, the timing, or the woman on the phone. You have counted four times and you know your own week.
Say the number out loud
Four counts and not one saying.
There is a shame that fastens itself to a dated household figure, and it is heavier than the shame attached to a large disaster, because a disaster is a story and a shortfall is a verdict.
Jesus taught people to ask for bread. Today's bread. The plainest possible domestic supply, placed in the middle of the prayer He gave everybody, with no apology attached anywhere and no suggestion that it was a small ask beneath the dignity of the conversation.
You are welcome to bring the exact figure and the exact date. Scripture says in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God, Philippians 4:6, and the Holy Spirit is the one who gets a man past the embarrassment far enough to say a number out loud in his own kitchen.
And the household is not trusting your arithmetic
The thing sitting on your chest since Wednesday needs correcting, because it is not true.
Your household is not trusting your arithmetic. They have never been trusting your arithmetic. They are trusting a father, and a father is not a set of figures, and the eldest choosing a room is not a bet she has placed on your bank balance.
She is doing what a child does in a house where somebody has always sorted it out. And the sorting out has been, for years, God's provision arriving through your hands, and it has not once been you generating it out of nothing.
You are not the source, and you never were, and that is not a demotion. Scripture says my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:19, and the Holy Spirit does not put a household's supply on the shoulders of the man counting at eleven at night.
You have been carrying two things and they have welded together in a hallway. There is a deposit due Friday, and there is a verdict on the kind of father who counts four times and gets the same answer.
Only the first one is real. Put the second down, because Scripture never printed it, Philippians 4:19, and the Holy Spirit did not supply it in a hallway.
Not because Friday is solved. I do not know what happens on Friday and anybody who tells you they do is selling something. What I know is that Abraham said the name on the way up, and that a shortfall has never once been given the authority to grade a man.
You are seen, and this need is known, and it was known before Monday. Scripture calls Him the God who sees to it, Genesis 22:14, and the Holy Spirit brought this figure into heaven before it ever reached your kitchen table.
So say the number out loud to God tonight. Buy the tape tomorrow, because the boxes need doing whatever else happens.
And tell one person you trust before Friday.
Declare this over yourself
Speak these standing in Christ, under the will of God, with no date placed on Him. Scripture gives the standing and the Holy Spirit carries the words, and the outcome is His, and He may answer in His own way.
- Friday with a figure on it, you are a deadline and not a judge. Scripture calls Him the God who sees to it, and that name was said on the way up the mountain by a man who did not know how it was going to go.
- Weight that has been on my chest since Wednesday, that this household is trusting my arithmetic, get out of this hall in the name of Jesus. Scripture says my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory, Philippians 4:19, and the Holy Spirit has never put a household's supply on the man counting at eleven at night.
- Lord, You are the God who sees to it, and my daughter has already chosen her room in a flat she saw for ten minutes. I am saying the number out loud to You tonight, and I am buying tape in the morning and telling one person before Friday.
