You have started reading them from the bottom, because the bottom is where you find out, and the top is four sentences of being handled.
After careful consideration. A very strong field. We do encourage you to apply again.
Fourteen since June.
The first three you barely felt. You expected them, everybody said you would get some, and you had a folder set up and a spreadsheet and a good attitude. The spreadsheet is still open in a tab and you have not updated it since the eleventh.
Somewhere around the ninth something changed, and it changed quietly, and you did not notice it happening.
They stopped being decisions about a vacancy and became decisions about you. Nobody said that. Every one of those letters is about a role and a field and a panel and a fit. But by the ninth you had begun to read them the way a person reads a mirror, and by the fourteenth you were not applying for work any more, you were submitting yourself for assessment and being returned.
You have been very good about it in front of everybody. You have the tone right at family things, light and rueful, and it costs you something every time.
And last night you did not open the email until the morning, and that is new.

God says plainly what people cannot do
There is a line in 1 Samuel where God interrupts a prophet who is doing exactly what everybody does.
But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.1 Samuel 16:7
Samuel is not a fool. He is a prophet, and he is standing in front of an impressive man, and he assumes. God stops him and gives the reason: the Lord does not see the way a man sees.
That is not primarily a comfort. It is a statement about the limits of human assessment, and it is spoken about the most senior spiritual figure in Israel at the time.
Which means this, and it is worth sitting with. Every panel you have been in front of since June has been doing the thing Samuel was doing. Not out of malice, not out of carelessness, but because that is the only thing a person on the outside is able to do.
You have not been seen by any of those fourteen processes. I am not putting my own opinion over you. Scripture says the Lord seeth not as man seeth, 1 Samuel 16:7, and the Holy Spirit does not update His view of you on the basis of a hiring decision made in forty minutes.
Nothing on this page is advice
Not one word of this is about your applications.
I do not know your field, your market, or the fourteen. Nobody who has not read those letters has any business suggesting an approach, and there is a real unkindness in implying that better technique would have opened a door by now.
So nothing here about how to write it, where to look, or who to speak to. Nothing here reads fourteen refusals as a report on your effort. Scripture never once reads a closed door that way, Revelation 3:8, and the Holy Spirit is not the voice telling a person at a kitchen table that she should have been cleverer.
You are not being overlooked by God this summer. That was as true in June as it is now.
The ninth one is the one to go back to
Here is the part that actually matters, and it is not the fourteenth.
It is the ninth, or somewhere around it, where the category changed. Where a letter about a role became information about a person.
That switch is the whole injury. Everything since has been landing in the wrong place, and it will keep landing there until it is named, because a person can absorb a great many refusals about a job and cannot absorb fourteen verdicts on herself.
Go and look at what those letters actually say. They say a field was strong. They say a decision was made. Not one of them contains a sentence about your worth, and you have been reading one into every single one of them since about July.
You are not what those emails decided, because they did not decide anything about you. Scripture says thou art fearfully and wonderfully made, Psalm 139:14, and the Holy Spirit settled that before any panel sat down.
The tone you have been keeping up
And one more thing, gently.
The light, rueful voice you use at family things. That has cost you more than any of the fourteen.
You have been managing everybody else's comfort about your situation for four months, which means you have been carrying the thing and also carrying the performance of being fine about the thing, and only one of those was necessary.
You are allowed to say it plainly to one person. That this is grinding you down. That you did not open the email last night. Scripture nowhere asks a person to be cheerful about her own hard summer, Romans 12:15, and the Holy Spirit is not the one who set that condition.
You have not been asked to be light about this. Scripture says bear ye one another's burdens, Galatians 6:2, and the Holy Spirit does not require a person to be entertaining about her own hard summer before He will send her a friend.
You have been treating fourteen decisions about roles as one long decision about a person, and no such decision was ever made.
The thing to put down today is not the search. Keep applying if that is what this season needs. Put down the category error, because Scripture never filed a person under a vacancy, 1 Samuel 16:7, and the Holy Spirit has not been reading those letters the way you have.
Go back and read the ninth one again if you can bear it, and notice what is not in it.
You are not overlooked, and a place is prepared for you, and you are provided for while you wait for it. Scripture says the Lord looketh on the heart, 1 Samuel 16:7, and the Holy Spirit has been looking at exactly that all summer while fourteen panels were looking at a page.
So close the spreadsheet tab for today. Ring one person and drop the light voice for ten minutes.
And when the fifteenth comes, read it from the bottom, and then let it be about a vacancy.
Declare this over yourself
Speak these standing in Christ, under the will of God, with no date placed on Him. Scripture gives the standing and the Holy Spirit carries the words, and the outcome is His, and He may answer in His own way.
- Fourteenth letter since June, you are a decision about a vacancy and not a decision about me. Scripture says man looks on the outward appearance and the Lord looks on the heart, and not one panel this summer has been able to do the second thing.
- Category error I made around the ninth one, where a letter about a role became information about a person, get out of this kitchen in the name of Jesus. Scripture says I am fearfully and wonderfully made, Psalm 139:14, and the Holy Spirit settled that long before any of these panels sat down.
- Lord, You are the God who sees what nobody on the outside can see, and You have been looking at that all summer. I am closing the tab for today and ringing one person without the light voice, and I am leaving the door with You.
